AutumnNamagashi (fresh sweets)

Kuri Kinton

栗きんとん

Fresh chestnuts and a little sugar, twisted in a cloth into the shape of a chestnut.

About this wagashi

Kuri kinton appears only in autumn, when chestnuts are harvested. With almost nothing but chestnut and sugar, its flavor depends on the quality of the year's crop.

How it is made

Chestnuts are boiled, scooped out and cooked with sugar, then a small portion is wrapped in a damp cloth (chakin) and twisted to leave fine pleats on top.
